Ebonized Tabletop Cabinet
Possibly 17th century
The structure was heavily compromised by wood boring insects. There were various losses of mouldings as well as an overall layer of grime and surface dirt. The ebonized wood surfaces were cleaned. Structural damage and surface losses were filled with paste epoxy. Ripple mouldings were replicated. The interior paper linings were surface cleaned and mended as needed. The painted panels were also surface cleaned. The restored surfaces and moulding restorations were ebonized with pigmented shellac to unify the surface appearance.
