Two Carved Wood frames

These portrait frames, carved in the style of Grinling Gibbons, are attributed to William Gibbs Rogers. Rogers, born in England in the late 18th century, was a great admirer of Gibbons style. As is common with work like this, there were various broken and detached elements that required re-attachment. In several areas carved elements were recreated. The color of the frames varied overall, possibly because of exposure to sunlight. After the detached carved parts and the restorations were reattached; the color of the frames were unified by the application of several spray coatings of very thin dyed shellac. The frames were waxed with Liberon dark oak paste wax and buffed.
